“Transurethral Partial Cystectomy with Continuous Wave Laser for Bladder Carcinoma” Yong Yang Et Al – The Journal of Urology July 2009
In the July edition in the Journal of Urology the paper ‘Transurethral Partial Cystectomy with Continuous Wave Laser for Bladder Carcinoma’ (Yong Yang Et Al, 2009) was published. In this cutting edge procedure using the Revolix 2 micron continuous wave laser, surgeons were able to precisely vaporize and incise the bladder wall. The procedure involves ‘incising the full-thickness bladder wall and peeling it between the detrusor muscle layers and outer loose connective tissues, thus completing partial cystectomy for bladder carcinoma.’[1]
The surgeons were able to remove tumors with full-thickness detrusor muscle layers at the base and send them off for pathology.
Patients received a 6-9 month follow up with no recurrence at the resection site. [1]
Key Words: Urinary bladder, Urinary bladder neoplasms, carcinoma, lasers, cystectomy
