Surgical Lasers for use in Orthopedic Conditions
The LISA Laser Holmium-YAG surgical laser is chosen for Orthopedic applications because it allows for a less invasive mobilization of the joints than by means of mechanical instruments. This is a key factor in minimizing the risk of a hemarthrosis; additionally, postoperative pain and swelling is reduced. There are a number of model numbers for these surgical lasers.

Lesions of the Meniscus - The small size of the SPHINX surgical laser’s application instrument allows for ablation of meniscus tissue, as well as in areas that are difficult to access with other models (e.g. the posterior horn).
Synovectomy - SPHINX surgical laser is also effective in the ablation of infected synovial tissue and simultaneous hemostasis.
Chondroplasty - Smoothing of degenerative cartilage in cases of chondromalacia II° and III° can be achieved with minimum strain on the remaining joint by using the small-sized laser instruments of the SPHINX surgical laser. This also allows for avoidance of iatrogenic lesions on intact cartilage surfaces.
Lateral Release - Lateral splitting of the retinaculum, with minimum bleeding, and the simultaneous shrinkage of the tissue, when treated with the SPHINX surgical laser, facilitates the new centering of the patella.
Ablation of non-weight bearing bone - Osteophytes and bones can be ablated with the SPHINX surgical laser without any additional mechanical stress and by avoiding internal bleedings.
Percutaneous Laser Disk Decompression (PLDD) and SPHINX laser-based foraminoscopy are minimally invasive alternatives when compared with conventional operations.
